As part of its continued mission to empower and uplift youth in Southeast Michigan, the Lomas Brown Jr. Foundation’s LEAP Camp recently took students on an unforgettable, hands-on learning experience at Schoolcraft College. The visit gave campers the opportunity to explore real-world career paths in both healthcare and entrepreneurship – opening doors to dreams they may have never imagined.
A Day in the Life of a Medical Professional
One group of students dove into the world of healthcare with a firsthand look into the medical field. From CPR demonstrations to walking through mock operating rooms, delivery rooms, ambulances, and emergency call centers, students gained valuable exposure to what it truly means to serve on the frontlines of patient care. It was an eye-opening and inspiring glimpse into careers that make a difference every day.

Financial Foundations and Entrepreneurial Thinking
While some explored medicine, the other half of campers focused on financial literacy and entrepreneurship. Through engaging sessions, they learned the fundamentals of budgeting, taxes, and building a business – essential life skills that lay the foundation for long-term success. By introducing these topics early, the camp helps spark confidence and curiosity about building a future on their own terms.
Creating Opportunities for Growth and Discovery
The LEAP Camp continues to be a powerful force for good – helping students build Leadership, Education, Attitude, and Preparation. Experiences like these aren’t just about exposure. They are about empowerment and giving kids the tools to discover who they can become.
