It was an inspiring afternoon in Redford as Detroit Lions players teamed up with students for a unique, hands-on experience in technology and innovation. Hosted at the Redford Service Academy, the event gave students an opportunity to explore the future of technology alongside professional athletes.
A Glimpse Into the Future
The day began with students interviewing Tyleik Williams, Tate Ratledge, and Isaac TeSlaa, and the rest of the Lions rookies about their experiences. TeSlaa highlighted the importance of early exposure: “Obviously, you know this is the future of America. They’re going to be the ones dealing with all this technology and AI and the drones and everything, so it’s cool that they’re getting a jump start on that.”

Hands-On Learning
From there, students moved into hands-on activities, flying drones both in the gymnasium and outdoors. This interactive approach not only sparked excitement but also gave students a preview of the skills they’ll continue developing in the Lomas Brown Jr. Foundation’s LEAP Camp, running June 23 through July 21.
A Mission to Inspire
Former Lion Lomas Brown emphasized the purpose behind the initiative: exposing children to as much technology as possible to prepare them for tomorrow’s world. Supported by Lions alumni and rookies, the event embodied the Foundation’s mission to inspire, educate, and empower youth across Southeast Michigan.
This event is another step forward in ensuring that young people have access to the tools, mentors, and opportunities they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
